Masterclass with Waymo

Update: Unfortunately we can’t share the recording of the Masterclass but here is a great video produced with LightHouse for the Blind:

In this Masterclass we were joined by Ben Loewenstein who is Head of UK and EU Policy at Waymo and he will be describing some of the technology behind Waymo driverless cars, and how they offer amazing levels of independence for visually impaired people. Currently they only operate in the US but they are very much hoping to extend coverage to the UK and elsewhere when legislation permits.

Waymo is part of the company Alphabet. They drive over one million miles and offer over 250,000 fully autonomous rides to members of the public across multiple US cities every week. In his role, Ben works with governments around the world to develop the policies that will bring autonomous driving to market. A dual Australian-German citizen, Ben’s background is in tech policy and consultancy. Prior to joining Waymo Ben was a political consultant at a business advisory firm.

During the Masterclass Ben covered topics including:

Introduction to Waymo

Overview of their AV technology

Deep dive on three key themes:

a) Safety

b) Accessibility

c) Sustainability

How you can get involved.
