Introduction
Visually impaired people often struggle to print address labels reliably and consistently. When using label templates for example, the addresses are often printed at a slant, printed in the wrong place, or not printed in the correct position on a label. People often have to rely on sighted assistance to write addresses in pen, hoping the handwriting and address is legible.
Taira Technology Label Printer is a program that enables a visually impaired person to print address labels consistently, reliably and independently (without sighted help). The program runs on the
Windows operating system. It can print addresses on pre-printed “Articles for the Blind” labels, such as those sold by the RNIB, and on various sizes of blank labels.
Features
- Supported labels include:
- Articles for the Blind labels, such as those sold by RNIB.
- Labels measuring 4 by 6 inches (101.6mm by 152.4mm) in size.
- 4 Labels which are supplied on an A4 sheet. Each label measures 139mm by 99.1mm in size. Each label covers a quarter of the page. The label codes for these labels are L7169 and J8169.
- Smaller labels measuring 2 by 3 inches (99.1mm by 67.7mm) in size. These labels are supplied on an A4 sheet which contains 8 labels. You can use these to print recipient addresses, or the text of your choice. The label codes for these labels are J8165 and L7165.
- Print addresses with the header of your choice. For example, when using a sheet containing four labels per sheet, the program can print an Articles for the Blind header for you (in compliance with Royal Mail/international guidelines). You can also print Free Matter for the Blind headers or create your own custom headers to be printed.
- When using a sheet which contains more than one label, the program will enable you to specify which addresses to print on which label. You can also copy header and address information to more than 1 label using the copy function.
- Print your entire address book at once with your chosen label options. This can be useful when sending parcels to multiple recipients.
- Create multiple address books. For example, you could have one address book for home use and multiple address books for business use.
- Add temporary addresses and headers. This can be useful if the address and header information does not need to be saved.
- Print labels without a sender or a recipient address. This can be useful if you want to print one address and handwrite the other address at a later stage.
- Copy addresses between address books.
- Change the location where your address books are stored. For example, you could store your address books in Dropbox or on similar cloud services to ensure they are always backed up.
- Taira Technology Label Printer can be used on up to three computers.
- No subscription to Microsoft Office required, the program works independently.
- Compatible with most inkjet and laser printers.
What’s new?
Changes since the release of Taira Technology Label Printer V1.0 (previously known as VTS Label Printer) are as follows:
- The program now supports smaller labels measuring 2 by 3 inches (99.1mm X 67.7mm) in size. These labels are supplied on an A4 sheet which contains 8 labels. Label Code J8165 and L7165.
- We’ve added the option to have multiple sender addresses instead of just one sender address to choose from.
- We’ve added the ability to copy headers and addresses to multiple labels whilst printing.
- We’ve added the ability to manage address books. The program now supports multiple address books, renaming/deleting address books, and the ability to copy addresses between address books.
- We’ve added support for the creation of custom headers and custom text on labels.
- We’ve added the ability to choose a custom location to save address book files.
- We’ve added the ability to swap the sender and recipient addresses when printing labels. This is useful when sending someone an address label to have an item returned to you for example.
- You can now preview labels before they’re printed.
- We’ve added the option to print all the addresses in an address book at once. The program will calculate how many labels are required.
- We’ve added the option to clear all labels.
- The program no longer requires administrator privileges to run.
- We’ve fixed a bug where .NET 3.5 support was required. The program now supports later versions of the .NET framework.
Supported printers and label types
We have tried to ensure that Taira Technology Label Printer works with as many A4 printers as possible. Regardless of if your printer is inkjet or laser, you can insert an A4 sheet of labels into your printer and print of a label independently using our software.
Supported label types
Taira Technology Label Printer supports the following labels:
- Articles for the Blind labels, such as those sold by RNIB.
- Labels measuring 4 by 6 inches (101.6mm by 152.4mm) in size.
- 4 labels which are supplied on an A4 sheet. Each label measures 139mm by 99.1mm in size (which covers a quarter of the page). You can print sender addresses, recipient addresses and label headers on these labels. The label codes for these labels are L7169 and J8169.
- 8 labels which are supplied on an A4 sheet. Each label measures 99.06mm by 67.73mm in size. You can use these to print recipient addresses or the text of your choice. The label codes for these labels are J8165 and L7165.
A note on printing Articles for the Blind/4 by 6 inch labels
If your printer supports printing 4 by 6 inch photographs (which most modern inkjet printers do), then you should have no problem printing on pre-cut 4 by 6 inch labels, such as the Articles for the Blind labels supplied by the RNIB. When printing on individual 4 by 6 inch Articles for the Blind labels, you must ensure that the labels are facing the correct way. Not having the labels in the correct orientation may result in your address text overlapping the pre-printed headers of the Articles for the Blind label you are printing on.
If your printer does not print on photographs or is a laser printer, then we would recommend purchasing a pack of labels where several labels are supplied on each A4 sheet.

Using the program
To open the program, click on the “Taira Technology Label Printer” icon on your desktop or via the “Start” menu.
The interface consists of several options described in the following sections. These options can be accessed by pressing “Tab” and “Shift” plus “Tab”.
When the program opens, your focus will initially be on the “Please select label type” combo box. To jump to this combo box at any time press “Alt” plus “L”. The following options are available as you arrow down through the combo box and press “Tab”.
RNIB Pre-printed “Articles for the Blind” label
This option is used if you have purchased “Articles for the Blind” labels from the RNIB that already have “Articles for the Blind” printed as a heading on the label. You must make sure that your printer can support 4 by 6 inch labels when selecting this option.
Blank 4 by 6 inch label
This option is used if you wish to print the addresses on a blank pre-cut 4 by 6 inch label. If you press “Tab” when this option is selected, you will be given the option to select which header you would like to print.
Blank A4 sheet with four labels
This option is used if you would like to print addresses on an A4 sheet containing four blank labels. When this option is selected and you press “Tab”, you can then select where the address should be printed. On the top left label, the top right label, the bottom left label or the bottom right label. To jump to this combo box at any time press “Alt” plus “O”.
If you press “Tab” for a second time, you will be prompted to select which header you would like to print.
Blank A4 sheet with eight labels
This option is used if you would like to print addresses or text on an A4 sheet containing eight smaller labels.
Select label header combo box
This combo box will only become available when the “Blank 4 by 6 inch” or “Blank A4 sheet with four labels” options are selected. To jump to this combo box at any time press “Alt” plus “H”. The combo box contains the following options. You can navigate through options by pressing the up and down arrows.
- “Blank”. If you select the blank option, a header will not be printed. The program will print the words “To be sent to” and “In case of non-delivery return to” (in case your parcel gets lost) above the sender and recipient addresses respectively.
- “Temporary, deleted on exit”. Choosing this option will enable you to create a temporary header. This header will not be saved when you exit the program. If you select this option and press “Tab”, you will be able to select the “Add temporary header” option. The layout of this screen is the same as the “Add new header” screen described below.
- “Articles for the Blind”. This option will print an “Articles for the Blind” header. The Articles for the Blind header text includes the phrases “Articles for the Blind”, “CECOGRAMME”, “1st class post” as well as the words “In case of non-delivery return to” above the sender address. This particular header also prints the international sign/logo for Cecogramme, as defined by the Universal Postal Union, to ensure your parcels can be sent internationally. If you use a Free Matter for the Blind or a custom header, this logo will not be displayed.
- “Free Matter for the Blind”. This option will print a Free Matter for the Blind header. The Free Matter for the Blind header text includes the phrases “Free matter for the blind”, “Free Matter For The Blind And Phys.”, “Handicapped Domestic Mail Manual Sect-703.5”, as well as the words “In case of non-delivery return to” above the sender address.
Add new header
If you select this option from the combo box and press “Tab”, you will be given the option to add a new header. To activate the option, press “Enter”. Once you have added your header, it will appear in the list of headers for future use. When you select a custom header which you have created and press “Tab”, options to “Edit” and “Remove” your header will be displayed.
The text boxes on the “Add header” screen are based on the “Articles for the Blind” header layout (without the logo). All the custom header titles are left aligned. The text boxes on the “Add header” screen are as follows:
- The “Label header”, which is the main text written along the long edge of the label (printed in a large font size).
- The “Label sub header”, which is the text written underneath the main label header text (printed in a normal font size).
- The “Postage class header”, which is the text written under the sub header text (printed in a normal font size).
- The “Sender address header”, which is the text written above the sender address (printed in a small font size).
Copy header across all labels
When you have selected a header and you press “Tab” to the “Copy header across all labels option”, the header that you have selected can be copied across all the labels that you are about to print. For example, if you are printing on a sheet containing four labels, all four labels will show the same header. To jump to this option at any time press “Alt” plus “D”.
The sender address combo box
This combo box shows all the sender addresses in your address book and will not be available when printing on a “Blank A4 sheet with eight labels”, due to the size of the labels (only the recipient address is printed). To jump to this combo box at any time press “Alt” plus “S”. You can navigate through options by pressing the up and down arrows. The “Sender Address” combo box contains the following options:
- “Blank”. Select this option if you do not want a sender address to be printed.
- “Temporary, deleted on exit”. This option allows you to add a temporary sender address. This address will be deleted when the program is closed. If you select this option and press “Tab”, you will be able to select the “Add temporary sender address” option. This screen has the same layout as the “Add new sender address” screen described below.
- “Add new sender address”. This option allows you to add a permanent sender address which will be added to your sender address book. If you select this option and press “Tab”, you will be able to select the “Add new sender address” option.
- If you select an existing sender address from the list and press “Tab”, options to “Edit”, “Remove” and “Copy” the selected address across all labels will be displayed.
Adding a sender address
To add a sender address:
- Press “Tab” to the sender address combo box.
- Press the “Down Arrow”, or the letter “A” until you reach the option in the combo box to “Add new sender address”.
- Press “Tab” or press “Alt” plus “A” to jump to the “Add new sender address” button and press “Enter”.
- A number of boxes will be displayed on screen. Please fill out all of the relevant boxes. If you have a long address, you can split the address across multiple lines. For example, if you need to enter a long company name, you could enter part of the company name in the “Name” box, and part of the company name in the “Company name” box. It doesn’t matter what you enter in each box, the program will print the information line by line, depending on what has been entered in each box. If a box is left blank, the program will simply print the next box that contains some information. It will not print blank boxes as blank lines. If you would like a blank line to be printed, you can enter a “Space” in the box. This will tell the program to leave a blank line.
- Once you have entered your address, press “Tab” to the “Save address” option and press “Enter”. Alternatively, you can “Tab” to the “Cancel” button at any time and press “Enter” to return to the previous screen.
- After saving the address to the sender address book, it should show in the “Sender address” combo box.
- Please Note: If commas are being announced by your screen reader when the address in the combo box is read out, rest assured that the commas will not be printed. The commas are there to separate the various address boxes and are nothing to worry about. If you are experiencing this issue, we would recommend setting your screen reader punctuation level to “some” or “none” for the “Taira Technology Label Printer” program if this becomes annoying. If you are not sure how to do this, please contact us and we will be happy to help.

A guide to inserting labels
There are various types of printers on the market, and they all work in much the same way. What does change from model to model and manufacturer to manufacturer is the way paper is handled and printed upon. The below descriptions should be taken as a rough guide. They are based on our experience when testing different types of printers.
The first time you print a label, we strongly recommend seeking sighted help if you are confused by the below descriptions. Please contact us if you require assistance and we’ll be more than happy to help.
Printing on an A4 sheet containing labels
When using A4 sheets containing multiple labels, you do not have to print on all the labels at once. Once you have worked out how to insert the sheets into your printer and how the printer is printing off your addresses, you can then insert the same sheet multiple times to print off a label. For example, if you are printing on an A4 sheet containing 4 labels and you print off a label in the top left position, you can insert the same sheet into the printer, in the same position and print an address on one of the other three label locations.
You do not need to change any printing options for this to work. So, you can insert your labels as you would any A4 sheet of paper, click the “Print” button (or use the “Control” plus “P” keyboard shortcut) and then click the “OK” button to print.
Descriptions of how your labels should be inserted and printed are below (based on printer type).
I have an inkjet printer and paper is taken from the back
Put the A4 sheet of labels into the printer, with the labels facing you. When you press print, the labels will come out facing upwards, print side up. The edge that is closest to you (in the paper out tray) is the top of the document. When you take the page out of the printer, you need to rotate it 180 degrees anti-clockwise to face it the correct way up. Label 1 should be in the top left-hand corner. If you want to reuse the label sheet, rotate the page back into its original orientation (by rotating the document 180 degrees clockwise) and place the labels back into the paper tray facing upwards.
I have an inkjet printer and paper is taken from the front

I have a laser printer and paper is taken from the back
Put the A4 sheet of labels into the printer, with the labels facing you.
I have a laser printer and paper is taken from the front
Put the A4 sheet of labels into the paper tray, with the labels facing upwards. When you press print, the labels will come out with the labels and print facing downwards. The edge that is closest to you (in the paper out tray) is the top of the document. Hold the top edge and slide the sheet out of the printer. Flip the sheet away from you, so the labels are facing upwards. Label 1 should be in the top left-hand corner.
Let’s assume that you have peeled off the top left hand label. To place the labels back into the paper tray, place the sheet of labels into the paper tray facing upwards, with the top left-hand label in the top left corner of the paper tray. This is the correct orientation. Then proceed to print.
Please note that some laser printers may print the labels facing upwards, so you may need sighted assistance if this is the case. However, in our testing, this is quite rare.
Printing on pre-cut four by six inch labels
Some printers have a dedicated photograph tray, which can be used to print on certain labels, such as the pre-cut RNIB Articles for the Blind labels. The following instructions assume you are printing the labels on an inkjet printer, with either a dedicated photo tray, or a printer with a section for printing off labels and photographs. Laser printers do not normally support printing on four by six inch labels.
If your photograph or paper tray is located at the front of your printer, the labels will usually be inserted face down. If you are using RNIB’s pre-printed “Articles for the Blind” labels, you would insert the label with the cut off corner to the top left, facing down.
If your paper is taken from the back, you will need to put the label into the printer with the label side facing towards you. In the case of a pre-printed RNIB label, the cut off corner would need to be at the bottom left.
When you are ready to print, tab to the “Print” button and press “Enter” (or press “Control” plus “P”) to bring up the print dialogue. Tab to the “Printer properties” button and press “Enter”. Your printer’s settings page will be displayed. The setting you are looking for is the paper size setting. Set your paper size to four by six inches (10 by 15 cm). Unfortunately, as many printers have different settings pages, we cannot be more specific than this. Please do not try printing on the label without changing the paper size. The paper size must be set for the program to work properly. Click the “OK” button when you have set your paper size. Then click the “Print” button to print your label.

Troubleshooting/FAQS
In this section, we will try to help you overcome any problems you may face when using Taira Technology Label Printer. If you can’t find a solution to your problem, please contact us.
I have a problem when printing labels
When printing labels or documents, several factors can prevent you from printing. We would encourage you to print off some test labels before using the program for sending mail regularly. Although the application tries to ensure that addresses are printed consistently and accurately, please double check all the labels that you print for visual imperfections such as ink smudges, text being misaligned/skewed, text going off the labels etc.
If your label is blank, not printing correctly, or your printer is not printing anything at all, then please check:
- Your ink cartridges (for low ink).
- Your label orientation/positioning in your paper tray.
- Your paper size is set correctly, especially if you are printing on four by six inch labels.
- Your recipient/sender addresses aren’t too long. If the text is going off the label, you can try splitting the text across multiple lines.
- For paper jams.
- That the printer is powered on.
My screen reader is not announcing shortcuts
If your screen reader is not announcing the keyboard shortcuts as you are navigating, you may need to enable a setting called “Report Object Descriptions”. If this feature is supported, you should be able to find instructions to enable this setting within your screen reader settings. As of writing this guide, here’s how to enable this setting in the two most common screen readers for Windows:
NVDA
- Press “Insert” plus “N” to go into the NVDA menu.
- Press “Enter” on “Preferences”, then “Enter” for a second time to go into “Settings”.
- Press down arrow until you are on the “Object Presentation” category.
- Press “Tab” repeatedly, or “Alt” plus “D” to navigate to the “Report Object Descriptions” checkbox.
- Please make sure this box is checked by pressing “Space”, then press “Tab” to OK and press “Enter”.
Jaws
- Press “Insert” plus “J” to go to the Jaws window/menu.
- Press “Alt” plus “U” to go into the “Utilities” menu, followed by the letter “E” to go into “Settings Centre”. You should be placed into a search box.
- Type the word “Verbosity” and press “Enter”.
- Arrow down until you reach the option to “Configure Verbosity Levels”. Press “Enter”. Please do not confuse this option with “Configure Web Verbosity Levels”.
- Press your right arrow twice. You should hear “Beginner”. Press “Space”. If you have your verbosity level set to “Intermediate” or “Advanced”, please arrow down and press “Space” on the verbosity level that you have set.
- Press down arrow to the “Control Descriptions” checkbox and press “Space” if it is not checked.
- Press “Tab” to OK and press “Enter”.
- You will be returned to the “Settings Centre”. Press “Tab” to OK and press “Enter” to save your settings.
I am having activation problems (the program will not run or is displaying an error)
Sometimes, some virus checkers can mark the files that Taira Technology Label Printer uses to activate as a “virus”. This may result in the program being deactivated. In many cases, uninstalling and reinstalling the program should fix any activation issues you are experiencing. Uninstalling the program will not delete your address book files. If you are still having problems, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
I want to install the program on another computer, but I have run out of activations
Taira Technology Label Printer can be used on up to 3 computers. If you have run out of activations, we would recommend uninstalling the program from any computers where it is not in use. This should increase the activation count, and you can then install the program and activate it on your new computer. If you are unable to uninstall the program from your old computer, please contact us and we can reset your activations for you. You can also purchase a new license if you wish to use the program on more than 3 computers.
I have lost my registration code
If you have lost your registration code, please click here to visit our key recovery page. When the page opens, please enter the email address that you used to purchase the program and click on the “Submit” button. Any registration codes that are registered to the email address will be emailed to you. If you no longer have access to your original email address, please contact us so we can reset your email address.
I do not live in the UK/US. Can I still send parcels internationally using this program?
You should not have any problems sending mail internationally using Taira Technology Label Printer. Many countries recognise the “Articles for the Blind/Cecogramme logo” or “Free Matter for the Blind” headers as items for the blind. For example, Australia use the “Articles for the Blind” scheme as far as we are aware. However, if you are in any doubt, we would recommend checking the postal guidelines for the countries you are sending from/to, to make sure they have a postal scheme for the blind in place. You can also create your own custom header if your country has specific wording which must be used on labels.
