This four-part course provides an introduction to mainstream and specialist technology for people who are blind or partially sighted, and the sessions can be viewed on YouTube using the links below.
The course has been developed by members of the Vision Partnership Technology Group and is part of a pilot project to provide training for professionals who might need to advise people on what technology is available and how it can help them to carry out daily tasks.
This first session provides an introduction to different types of technology including smart phones, PCs and laptops, braille devices and smart glasses.
The second session provides an introduction to accessibility features on Apple iOS iPhones and iPads including screen settings, magnification and VoiceOver.
This third session provides an introduction to accessibility features on Android devices including screen settings, magnification and TalkBack.
The fourth session provides an introduction to some of the apps commonly used by blind and partially sighted people including Seeing AI, Be My Eyes, EasyReader, Soundscape and VoiceVista. It also looks at some good practice tips for Assistive Technology Trainers.
