Recruitment of Chair of Trustees

Technology has the ability to transform the everyday lives of people who are blind or partially sighted, but only if people know what technology is available and know how to use it. TAVIP (the Technology Association of Visually Impaired People) provides information and training for individuals, and also works strategically as part of the wider sight loss sector, to ensure that people have the information and specialist support that they need to use technology. We also tackle barriers that can cause digital exclusion.

We are a member-led organisation which brings together blind and partially sighted people to provide peer support and training. We run monthly training and discussion sessions online, host an email discussion list, run an annual ‘TechABreak’ conference weekend and provide one to one training sessions for people wanting to improve their use of technology for work or education. We employ a Chief Executive, and we will shortly be recruiting for our second member of the staff team to work alongside our volunteers, our Trustees, and our freelance technology professionals.

We are increasing our involvement in technology-related strategy and project development work with organisations from across the sight loss sector in order to maximise the impact we make for blind and partially sighted people.

At this exciting time in the charity’s development, we are seeking a new Chair of Trustees who can work with other trustees and our members to further develop our services and partnerships, and to manage our resources to have the greatest benefit for blind and partially sighted people.

You are likely to have a good understanding of assistive technology, either as a user yourself, or as someone working within the sector, and ideally you will have a good understanding of what is involved in running a small charity.
